As a prospective international student studying at GELI, it is important you understand about the cost of living in Australia. As each student's financial situation is different, we recommend you take some time and think about the cost of living in Australia. When estimating the cost of living some important costs you should consider are:

Accommodation

There are a lot of options when it comes to where to live in Brisbane or the Gold Coast. These include on-campus accommodation, off-campus accommodation and homestay. 

Costs you should consider include:

  • Rent
  • Household expenses such as electricity, gas, water, telephone and internet
  • Furniture
  • Food

Transport

Brisbane has excellent public transport and there are also University buses that offer free transport between Griffith University campuses. Brisbane also has many bikeways and bike paths for cyclists and the CityCycle bike hire scheme allows you to hire a bike and cycle around Brisbane. Transport costs to consider include:

  • Public transport costs (train, bus, cycle, river ferry etc)
  • Cost of purchasing and running a car including car insurance, maintenance and petrol
