English for Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is for students who plan to study at University. The program builds on the skills learnt in General English, continues to develop student's English language skills and also teaches students the skills needed to succeed at academic study. Key focus areas include listening to lectures, note-taking, planning and writing academic essays, oral presentations and group discussions.

Upon completion of EAP level 1, students have several options. They may choose to continue on to EAP levels 2 and 3 and further develop their academic English skills. Alternatively they may choose to commence the English Test Preparation course in preparation for sitting an IELTS test. Students also have the option to commence the DEP Preparation course which prepares them for entry into the Direct Entry Program.

Entry requirements

• IELTS: 5.0 with a minimum subscore of 4.5 OR
• TOEFL iBT: 61 with a minimum subscore of 14 OR
• ISLPR: 2 from the ISLPR Mt Gravatt Central Test Centre OR
• GELI: internal placement test
• There are also a number of pathways available for students who do not meet these entry requirements
